Maria Filippova & Daniil Nikulin

DIR#7: 16.1. – 11.3.2018:

We are pleased to announce our next Dancers in Residence: Maria Filippova & Daniil Nikulin from Moscow.

Over the past two years we saw with amazement that with every new performance Maria and Daniil presented, they pushed their dancing to a new and surprising level showing no fear of genre-boundaries.

Their fast development and their individuality in dancing is truly inspiring. By inviting them to take part in the DIR#-program, we want to support them in the creation of their artistic output and progression as well as learn from their approach and dedication to dancing.
Join the DIR#7 program to add new perspectives to your own development and to get to a place where dance is not a copy of a copy but movement in evolution.

Watch their most recent performance and start getting excited with us.

About

In Lindy Hop classes, the focus is often on the communicative part and the dynamics of leading and following in the dance. However, especially for followers it is important to know their own possibilities to be creative. So in this class, Maria will work with you on body movement: she will show you how to warm up and stretch, help you with your coordination and stay-ability and do solo jazz practice exercises with you. Then you will focus on footwork variations in Lindy Hop. But rather than just memorizing some particular moves, she will help you understand the principles of variating so you can start creating many of those variations on your own.

For intermediate and higher-level Lindy Hop followers.

About

Most of us have experienced, in dancing or otherwise, that something which seemed really easy at one point proved to be much more complex when our understanding of it deepened. In this course, Daniil and Maria will address exactly this topic in Lindy Hop. They will take you on a journey into the depths of the basic principles of couple dancing: solo technique, communication and styling. Developing your abilities in these areas will rapidly increase the level of confidence you have in your dancing (which is more often than not what makes the difference between a mid-level dancer and an advanced one).

Requirements

For intermediate and intermediate-advanced dancers. The kind of work done in this course is certainly very productive for higher levels as well.

About

It’s sometimes hard to say which tempo is more difficult to dance to: fast or slow. Often, students get stuck in the mid-tempo range songs and are afraid to explore further in either direction. In this class, Daniil and Maria will teach you technique and give you tips that will help with any DJ’s choices. How they themselves say: “If you have your timing right, you’ll be able to dance to any song perfectly. Timing is the key to everything”.

About

This is the place where Daniil and Maria share their very personal approach to Lindy Hop. This is how they themselves describe what they want to do with you in this class: “For us there are principles of how our Lindy works. We will work with you on understanding figures from the perspective of their different aspects like momentum, footwork structure, directions and condition of contact to be able to create something of your own. We will not feed you with one fish every class, we will give you the fishing rod.”

About

Daniil and Maria have made the transition from dancing the dance to performing the dance and know where the differences lie. In this class, they will introduce you to their understanding of kick-ass dancing in competitions, jams and for your own performance pieces. They will work with you on topics like dancing with a high sense of musicality by understanding composition, being self-confident and cool by doing less and getting proper jam circle practice before performing at the farewell-party. They will help you to create some impressive prepared content to have up your sleeve for jams and competitions but also cover further themes relating to the artistic aspects of Lindy Hop.

Requirements

For advanced and advanced plus dancers. For this course you are required to register with a fixed partner. There will be NO partner rotation. You have to be willing to practice between the classes and do extra rehearsals for the show.
