All About our Dancer in Residence Program

With their roots in America, it was in the 1980ies – at the latest – that Authentic Jazz Dance and Culture went international.

One of the earliest goals of the IG Hop was giving the Viennese scene the possibility to participate in the artistic and creative process of dancers from abroad and to learn from innovative teachers for a longer period of time than just during a few hours at weekend-workshops.

In 2012, we started to implement our plans for an artist residency by curating and organizing the “Dancer in Residence” program. With this at the time completely new and by now well-established and copied concept we invite interesting artists from the field of Authentic Jazz Dance and Culture to come to vienna for a two-month stay so that they can …

 

# share their knowledge, their expertise, their ideas …
# and last but not least their joy in dancing with the local scene.
# get time and space to work on their own artistic development as dancers.

With this program, the IG Hop supports specifically those dancers who have an individual and contemporary approach to topics related to Authentic Jazz Dance and Culture.

Ausgehend von Amerika ist Authentic Jazz Dance and Culture spätestens seit den 1980er Jahren international geworden.

Eines der frühesten Ziele der IG Hop war es, der lokalen Szene die Möglichkeit zu bieten, am kreativen Prozess von spannenden und innovativen TänzerInnen Teil zu haben und umgekehrt diese KünstlerInnen in ihrem Potenzial zu fördern. Wir wollten es möglich machen, von internationalen TrainerInnen nicht nur im Rahmen von Wochenend-Workshops für ein paar Stunden zu lernen und inspiriert zu werden, sondern über einen längeren Zeitraum hinweg.

Deshalb kuratiert und organisiert die IG Hop seit 2012 das ‘Dancer in Residence’-Programm (DIR#). Mit diesem damals ganz neuen und mittlerweile bewährten und kopierten Konzept ermöglichen wir interessanten ProtagonistInnen aus dem Bereich des Authentic Jazz Dance and Culture einen zweimonatigen Aufenthalt in Wien damit sie …

# und nicht zuletzt ihre Freude am Tanzen mit der lokalen Szene teilen können.
# Raum und Zeit für die eigene tänzerisch-künstlerische Arbeit und Entwicklung haben.

Entsprechend ihrer Ausrichtung fördert die IG Hop mit diesem Programm im Besonderen TänzerInnen mit einem individuellen und zeitgemäßen Ansatz zu Themen von Authentic Jazz Dance and Culture.
