Dance Instructor for Lindy Hop, House Dance and Authentic (Solo) Jazz
Rudi teaches Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz for IG HOP since 2024. His classes combine a strong sense of rhythm and musicality with a focus on the cultural context of the dance. Drawing from his work as a percussionist and rapper, Rudi brings a distinct rhythmic energy to his teaching that helps students move with clarity and groove.
Bio
Rudi spent his teenage years playing Basketball and doing Rap music. In his early 20s, his moving body-mind was further shaped by Capoeira and Contact Improvisation. After stumbling into Contemporary Dance at age 21, movement practice quickly became his path, his lab, and his teacher – and then his profession.
Since he encountered House Dance in New York, Rudi’s interest and focus shifted more and more towards African American dances and cultural practices – first House and Breaking, later HipHop and eventually original Jazz and Lindy Hop.
Today, Rudi lives in Vienna and dedicates his time to the study of those dances, researching the many ways to open doors for people and give them a taste of this rich and beautiful culture.
When not dancing or studying dance, he is still obsessed with the phenomenon of rhythm, studies and plays percussion or writes, records and performs Rap music.
As a white person in an African American art form, as a man in this world, and in many other ways, Rudi is committed to learning about the workings of power and privilege and how we can move towards a more inclusive, respectful and supportive culture.
